To reach a higher state of consciousness, I will often block out the world by putting my Bowers & Wilkins headphones and listen to mind-melting music.

This soundscape features some of the best music I have recently discovered that enables one to focus and transcend the human condition, retreating to the cathedral of the mind. Some of the records I have selected for this mix are rather unusual in that they sound electronic. However, most are performed using nothing but classical instruments, for example, the opening track, 'Spindrift' by Colin Stetson, was produced with just one instrument, a saxophone.

Personally, this kind of music suggests we have come full circle, the early pioneers of electronic music were inspired by composers like Steve Reich, and now today's composers are inspired by Aphex Twin.
